Overview
This policy explains what information Better Remote accesses, why it accesses it, and where that information goes. In short: the app’s core features operate between your Mac and devices on your local network.
Information Better Remote accesses
- Local network device information. The app discovers compatible Apple TV devices and may receive device names, identifiers, available apps, user profiles, supported controls, playback status, titles, artwork, and other media metadata exposed by the selected Apple TV.
- Pairing information. When you pair an Apple TV, Better Remote stores the credentials needed to reconnect to that device.
- App preferences. Settings such as known devices, favorite or hidden apps, appearance, shortcuts, and launch behavior are stored on your Mac.
- Text and commands you choose to send. Keyboard input, remote commands, and media URLs are sent to the Apple TV you select.
How information is used and stored
Device information and pairing credentials are used only to provide discovery, connection, remote control, app launching, text entry, and Now Playing features. Pairing credentials, device records, and preferences are stored locally in Better Remote’s macOS app container. They are not synced to a Better Remote account because Better Remote has no account system.
Network requests
Most communication is directly between your Mac and Apple TV on your local network. When Now Playing identifies YouTube content, Better Remote may request public video metadata or artwork from YouTube to improve the title, link, or image shown in the app. Opening a title, information search, or media link uses the destination you choose and may open a third-party website or app. Those services process requests under their own privacy policies.
Information Better Remote does not collect
Better Remote does not collect personal information on a developer-operated server. It does not include third-party analytics, advertising SDKs, cross-app tracking, crash-reporting services, or data brokers. It does not sell or share personal information for advertising.
Retention and deletion
Information stored by Better Remote remains on your Mac until you remove it. You can unpair a device from the app to remove its current pairing credentials. Removing the app and its data from your Mac removes locally stored Better Remote information.
Children’s privacy
Better Remote is a general-purpose utility and is not directed to children. Because it does not operate an account or collection service, it does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
If Better Remote’s data practices change, this page will be updated before or when the relevant app update is released. The effective date above identifies the current version.
